VARTRON power capacitors are primarily used for reactive power compensation and improving power factor in low-voltage AC networks.

Construction
The capacitors are of the MKP type, with oil-impregnated insulation in a hermetically sealed cylindrical aluminum casing and an IP20 terminal box with six terminals.

They comply with EN 60 831-1/2, IEC 831-1/2, and UL 810. Our range includes VARTRON power capacitors from 0.5 to 50 kVAR, for voltages of 400, 440, and 525 V.

VARTRON capacitors are widely used in both traditional and protected compensation switchgear equipped with electromechanical or semiconductor switching.

Safety
Operational safety is ensured primarily by the self-healing dielectric and a pressure relief safety device. Connecting the capacitors is easy via the IP20 terminal box. The installation/replacement of the external discharge resistor module is quick and straightforward.

Impregnant
The role of the impregnating agent is to isolate the capacitor electrodes from external influences and thus primarily prevent the corrosion of metal parts. The dry impregnating agent used in VARTRON capacitors also ensures reliable heat dissipation.

Self-Regeneration of the Dielectric
During thermal or electrical overload, or at the end of the service life, electric arcs may occur, causing the evaporation of metallic layers at the fault center. The gas pressure created by high temperatures removes the evaporated coating from the breakdown point within microseconds. A non-conductive area free of coating forms at the breakdown site, which is sufficiently insulated and voltage-resistant. The reduction in the capacitor's capacity after regeneration is about 100 pF, or a thousandth of the rated capacitance; the capacitor remains fully functional.

Pressure Relief Safety Device
An increasing number of self-regenerations (e.g., at the end of service life or due to frequent electrical and thermal overload) can lead to increased pressure inside the capacitor. To prevent capacitor explosion, each VARTRON capacitor is equipped with a safety pressure relief device. The principle of operation relies on a breakable connection of internal connecting wires. In the event of rising pressure inside the capacitor, the lid expands, and the capacitor safely disconnects. This mechanism works reliably as long as the operating conditions for which the capacitor is designed are maintained. The pressure relief device is intended for safe disconnection of the capacitor at the end of its service life and does not replace protection against short circuits and overcurrents. For critical installations, it is advisable to ensure continuous monitoring using a dedicated solution from Janitza.
