NOVAR 1106 reactive power controller 90 - 275 V AC, 6 relay outputs, RS-485, power factor 0.8 ind. - 0.8 kap. temperature measurement, fan control, 2 mA sensitivity, front panel installation, 144 x 144 mm. The controllers are fully automatic devices that monitor the condition of the LV/VV distribution network and, based on fast and accurate calculations, connect or disconnect individual compensation or decompensation stages (capacitors, decompression inductors) to achieve the desired power factor.

NOVAR 1106 and 1114 Reactive Power Controllers

The NOVAR 1106 and 1114 reactive power controllers are fully automatic devices designed for optimal reactive power compensation control. They are compatible with the original NOVAR 1xx/2xx models in terms of connection. These controllers are suitable for applications that require:

  • High precision regulation even at low loads.
  • Ventilation control.
  • Additional extended functions.

Regulation:

  • Four quadrants: The regulation operates in all four quadrants.
  • Regulation speed: Depends on both the size of the control deviation and its polarity (over-compensation or under-compensation).
  • Switching: The switching of compensation capacitors is performed to achieve the optimal compensation state with a single control action and a minimal number of switching stages.
    • Optimization: The device selects individual stages considering their balanced loading.
    • Prioritization: The device preferentially switches on stages that have been disconnected the longest, thus having the minimal residual charge.

NOVAR-1xxx Series Reactive Power Controllers

The NOVAR-1xxx series reactive power controllers are fully automatic devices designed for optimal reactive power compensation control. They are based on the NOVAR-1xx/2xx series and incorporate numerous improvements and new features while maintaining the same control and connection methods.

Key Features:

  • Precise Measurement: Equipped with accurate voltage and current measuring circuits. Digital processing of measured values ensures high accuracy in evaluating the true effective values of voltage, current, and power factor.
  • Internal Temperature Sensor: Used for measuring the temperature inside the switchgear.
  • FFT Algorithm: The devices use an FFT algorithm to calculate the fundamental harmonic component of both active and reactive currents. This also applies to the fundamental harmonic component of voltage, ensuring accurate measurement even in conditions with higher harmonic distortion.
  • Panel Size: 144 x 144 mm.
  • Inputs and Outputs: Common power supply and measuring input, 6 or 14 relays + alarm relay.
  • Communication: Optional RS-485 communication interface for remote monitoring and control.
  • Power Supply: Optionally, power supply voltage up to 500 V (S400 models).
  • Current Measurement: Sensitivity of current measurement is 2 mA.
  • Automatic Settings: Fully automated setting, automatic recognition of connections and step sizes.
  • Switching Algorithm: Intelligent switching algorithm to extend the life of individual components.
  • Accuracy: High accuracy in current and power factor measurement, precise measurement and regulation even in noisy conditions.
  • Harmonics: Evaluation of THD and measurement up to the 19th harmonic, monitoring harmonic load on capacitors for their protection.
  • Temperature Sensor: Built-in temperature sensor, optional relay for heating/cooling switching.

Model Specifications:

  • Novar-1106/1114: The voltage measuring circuit is internally connected to the power supply terminals.
  • Novar-1206/1214: The separate voltage circuit allows connection in the range of 45 to 760 V AC.

The network voltage frequency can vary between 43 and 67 Hz. The current measuring input is universal for a nominal secondary current of 1A or 5A. Measuring inputs can be connected in any combination of phase or line voltage and any phase current.

Installation and Regulation:

  • Automated Installation: The controller automatically detects the connection method and the size of each connected compensation step. Manual input of these parameters is also possible.
  • Regulation: Operates in all four quadrants. The regulation speed depends on the size of the control deviation and its polarity (over-compensation/under-compensation).
    • Switching: Switching of compensation capacitors is performed to achieve the optimal compensation state with a single control action and minimal switching stages.
    • Optimization: The device selects individual stages considering their balanced loading.
    • Prioritization: It preferentially switches on stages that have been disconnected the longest, with minimal residual charge.
  • Continuous Monitoring: During regulation, the device continuously monitors compensation stages. In the event of a failure or change in stage value, the corresponding stage is temporarily excluded from regulation and periodically tested.

Options and Interfaces:

  • Communication Interface: Equipped with an optional RS-485 communication interface for remote monitoring and control, enabling easy integration into broader energy systems.
  • Alarm and Control Relays: In addition to the standard 6 or 14 relays, the controllers offer alarm relays for immediate alerts on system status.

Customization and Flexibility:

  • Optional Power Supply Range: Available with an optional power supply voltage up to 500 V, ideal for applications requiring higher resistance (S400 models).
  • Measurement Sensitivity: The device offers high sensitivity in current measurement down to 2 mA, ensuring accurate detection of even very low current levels.
  • Automation and Settings: Fully automated with the option of automatic recognition of connections and compensation step sizes. Users can also manually enter parameters for specific applications.

Advanced Measurement and Protection:

  • Harmonic Evaluation: The devices can evaluate total harmonic distortion (THD) and measure up to the 19th harmonic component, crucial for precise regulation in distorted conditions.
  • Capacitor Protection: Monitors harmonic load on capacitors to ensure their protection and extend their lifespan.
  • Integrated Temperature Sensor: The built-in temperature sensor monitors the temperature inside the switchgear and can control an optional relay for heating or cooling, contributing to safe operation.

Intelligent Control:

  • Smart Switching Algorithm: A specially designed switching algorithm extends the lifespan of individual components through intelligent management and minimizing switching.
  • Regulation Optimization: The device optimizes the regulation process to minimize the number of switching stages and ensures balanced loading, contributing to higher system efficiency.
